थे पॉवर ऑफ़ अस्किंग

Wow, the last 8 weeks have been really challenging! More than anything they have been mind tiring! Long story short, I bought a flat off plan 3 year ago, which is still a good investment.

However with the banks and anything associated with them being in a state of defence, it was down valued by £22.000, yep that’s right £22.000, so I have been fighting and taking on the banks, surveyors and brokers. It has been an amazing learning experience, challenging and frustrating but an amazing experience. There were days where I simply didn’t know what I was going to do…I had no answers and no ideas, it appeared that every avenue I went down another obstacle came up and then another, and even when I was making progress something else threw me…

For those of you that know me, you will know I have saying” there is always a way, always” I kept saying that to myself and looking at options, thinking how can I make it work? Well it appears that I have achieved what some people think is amazing, I don’t, I simply think I have achieved what was needed to make it work. How did I do it? By simply asking the right questions…I asked the development company if they will lend me the money and they said yes…I spoke the bank and they too will lend me the money.

I also asked people if they wanted to buy %50 of the property, which means I don’t have to borrow as much, so I am waiting for some answers on that front.

The power if asking is huge, lots of people were asking me how I got the development company to lend me £15.000 what tricks did I use? The truth is there were no tricks, shouting or deception, I simply asked and asked again, took action and when an avenue that I went down offered feedback with no results, I went back and asked again, but asked intellectually, asked a better question and got better results.

My next stage is, I have to decide and work out how much I will commit myself to, this is simply the next phase, with the next phase comes better questions. Always ask first would be my learning, now I can’t stop asking…for everything 

I am sending out my new report called the 5 Mistakes That Entrepreneurs Make when they get started, if you want to get your copy(which is being sent over 5 weeks) go to www.elliotkay.com and enter your details, the first mistake went out last week and there four more to go…to catch the next four enter your details before this Tuesady.

Till next time,

Good Branding makes good sales

Well,

Despite being hit by a chest infection I managed to make to a business boot camp in the area of Heathrow, London, England. The truth be known I didn’t know I had a chest infection at the time.

It was an amazingly intense two days, full of amazing speakers all adding value in different ways and most of them will be interviewed by me on my radio show Inspire A Nation on www.playvybz.com. So keep listening out.

The one I want to share was a talk delivered by Topher Morrison. Topher focussed on Branding. As most you know I focus on getting clients mind set in tune, in order to move forward.

One of the best ways you can condition yourself to be recognised instantly in what ever business you are in is through effective branding. Branding can be described as, knowing that you know them without having met them. Just look at Madonna, who continually re-invents herself, she re-brands herself brilliantly every time, David Bowie, The Beckhams.

Great branding works brilliantly because it switches the wrong people off and attracts the right ones. If you are nicey nicey with your branding and wanting to appeal to everyone, stop! Branding isn’t meant to appeal to everyone. It is purposely designed to attract the right people.

Would you rather have a following of 1000 top quality customers who know who you are and soon as you have a product spend their money with you? Or would you rather have 5000 people that know of our branding and less than 1% spend their money with you? It isn’t rocket science.

That’s doesn’t mean you can’t be authentic. On contrary more the authentic the more you attract the right people.

So how easy is it? Well, you are going to have re-brand several times before you get it right but stay away from Mug Shoots on your brochures. In fact here are a few tips on how to create a good brochure for effective branding:
•Pick a focused attribute – What is the single benefit/feature or value

•Make it personal – Personality sells, I will say it again personality sells! Drop the statistics, people love reading success stories! When it is appropriate add in pets or children, always melts the heart.

•Write it in third person – writing in the 1st person can come across as egotistic and no one likes an ego…do they? Avoid bullets point(ironic that isn’t it)

•It should be no more than 300-500 words

•And this is the most important…Invest in a knock out cover!!! Have no logos or anything on the front and once again no mug shots! The front image should generate an interest to pick it up and open it, so don’t hold back.

That’s it for this week, if you want to ask me anything or want to talk about having a session drop me an email:elliot@elliotcoach.me.uk

Get ready to be inspired,

A challenging week indeed

Well,
This week certainly has thrown up a few challenges and mainly towards the the end of the week. Everything with my business appears to be heading in the right direction and the radio show Inspire A Nation on www.playvybz.com is getting bigger and bigger. By the way I have introduced a new feature The K Report by Christian Casher from www.christiancasher.com who will be giving his tips and advice on the stock markets, it is not all doom and gloom.

Towards the end of the week I had a phone call from the surveyors about my flat that I am in process of buying in Cardiff, wales, and that set my creative mind off. It is looking like the investment is going to need some rolling on my behalf, what do I mean??? well it means I am going to have to top it up with my own money because the rentals in the area wont cover my mortage...interesting...challenging...my head was off on one...so I spent Thurs working out how I can make it work and that was a challenge and at the time a tough one...and I must admit that got me down a bit...the temptation in those situations is to go and hide, instead I took action. I created a fan page for my radio show and then fan page for a project that I am working on to get more applicants for Superstars Coachs that will bring me in some extra income when it is up and running:-)

I felt 10 times better because I had taken action, and really blasted through the insecurities that had started to play on my mind. Do I know how I am going to make it work, now I do, by generating more income for myself, because down the line the flat will be worth a lot. As always having faith in myself has pushed me through my weakness into strength.

Till next week,

Elliot

A night out in good old london

A night out by Elliot Kay:

It’s Friday in London, and I’m out with some friends, it is getting late. It is fair to say that the drinks are going down well, and everyone is having a great time. I take a step back and look around me, and think to myself, it’s Friday and what are we actually doing?
We are out and we are trying to get approval, who’s approval? Anyone’s! I watched guys talking to guys, girls speaking to girls, guys and girls talking to each other, pretty obvious you might say, but these guys are all strangers dancing to songs they hate and acknowledging people they wouldn’t normally speak to. Because everyone is after something, what’s that I wondered??? Is it sex? Is it friendship? Is it love? A good time? Is it all of the above?

The more I questioned the more I realised the answer is inside us. In life coaching I cover the 6 human needs, but where can I see an example of them in action? Well, to see them in action all you need to do is look around on a Friday night, if it be in London or LA. You will see people looking for love, connection, certainty, verity, significance and contribution., Wow, I stepped back, am I witnessing everything at once? is that possible? And why am I thinking of this while Green Day are playing? Is it because this girl just put her arms around me and I felt loved for a minute? Was she looking for a connection? Am I growing right now? So much going on in my head on a Friday night. I think the head ache I am going to have won’t be the drink but all those thoughts going round!

I stopped myself, slow down boy and told myself: there is nothing wrong with looking for our 6 human needs, well in fact as people we will do anything to get the them met!, that’s why they are needs. We will leap over our values and compromise our beliefs. For some reason I felt guilty when I look for them and want them all to be fulfilled in a positive way, well, I don’t need to. Is it selfish to want them to be met? No! Is it about thinking about you and putting yourself first? yeah! And what’s wrong with that? Nothing. How easy was that? Very.

I then pick up my drink, take a sip, and feel sad because with all this thinking I missed one of favourite songs, what’s the song? Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day, and then another thought comes into mind…that is for next time!

This weeks thoughts...

Mr Miyagi teaches us more than just Karate by Elliot Kay

I was lying there all jet lagged, after a trip to the very Sunny LA. A place where I am going to take my Life Coaching practice in the next 12 months. I was lying there thinking about my blog, what should I write this week???

I was thinking what a big step I will be taking, moving to sunny LA, and then a thought slipped into my head: Did Mr Miyagi from the Karate Kid capture the essence of Life Coaching, and what it takes to take on change in your life?

What a strange and interesting concept, I started to break it down…
It is the scene in Karate Kid 1, when Daniel son finds Mr Miyagi’s war medal, Daniel
son thinks that this is amazing, and does what every young teenage would do, he raps it up it and puts it in a gift box, and hands it to Mr Miyagi.

When Daniel son presents it to him, Mr Miyagi thanks him but isn’t impressed…and there is the moment, the essence, Mr Miyagi turns to Daniel son and says: Medal means you are lucky(puts his hands on Daniels sons chest) this mean you are brave.

Wow, how true and yet so cheesy, how simple can it be to define Change and Life Coaching? Well very simple, As Mr Miyagi proves.

Now I really couldn’t sleep at all, my mind was up and running.

Everyday we wear our medals in various shapes and forms, nice trendy clothes, Jewellery and various types of cars we drive and of course the list varies for person to person, are these simple attempts to show how lucky we are? It seems a little hollow to me.

Mr Miyagi had it spot on, we can have all luck in the world, where will it get us without courage? Bravery? In 12 months I will take a massive life changing step, what ever medal I dress up in, it won’t happen unless I am brave enough to make it happen, even luck runs out. Mr Miyagi also had it right when he puts his hands on Daniel son’s chest, who needs medals when our best guide is within us? Our heart.

The truth we don’t, I knew as soon as I spent a few days out there that my heart was already there and I was doing the right thing, it won’t be easy as changing your life never is. We all have the courage to do what ever we set our minds to. That is the medal and the reward, it might work out slightly differently, at least you followed your heart! There it is Mr Miyagi’s vision: courage and bravery, not external forces but inner forces, YOU, That’s what it is about.
Mr Miyagi I salute you!
